John Sayles to write HBO's Scar Tissue
Multihyphenate John Sayles has been tapped to write HBO's series project based on the childhood of Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis.
Drama, tentatively titled "Scar Tissue" (the name of Kiedis' autobiography), centers on the rocker's early years living in West Hollywood with his father. At that time, Kiedis' dad, known as Spider, sold drugs and mingled with rock stars on the Sunset Strip, all while aspiring to get into showbiz (Daily Variety, Nov. 12).More than one option(Co) Daily Variety

Catapult 360 partners Marc Abrams and Michael Benson, who partnered with Kiedis to create the series, said Sayles hit it off with the rock star. Sayles has been meeting with both Kiedis and Kiedis' father as he starts to write the script.
"John writes from a real human place, and has already tapped into the relationship between young Anthony and his dad," Abrams said.
The series will be set in 1970s West Hollywood and Los Angeles and include the rockers encountered by Kiedis and his father (who, according to legend, was a drug dealer for the Who and Led Zeppelin, among others).
Sayles is known for writing and helming such pics as "Honeydripper," "Silver City," "Sunshine State" and "Lone Star."
